The Toad Pepe

The Toad Pepe is a Solana memecoin built on El Sapo Pepe, an Argentine children's character that genuinely predates Matt Furie's Pepe the Frog. The song and the character were written in 1988 by the singer and presenter Analía García, working as Candela, and performed on Súper Súper, the ATC programme she hosted. That chronology is documented. The token's wider claim, that it is therefore the first Pepe, is not: the red-shirted mascot it uses was commissioned in 2005 by a rival rights claimant, and no evidence establishes that Furie knew the Argentine character existed.

The contract is A13oRB9FFaiUjfi6LdCg6p9ka1u8SfGkUFs4SKvPpump, launched through Pump.fun. Its earliest liquidity pair was created on 8 August 2026 at 13:59 UTC. The launch text offered no team and no roadmap: it said the deployer would not run the coin and invited a community takeover, which the DEX Screener profile recorded on 14 August. Mint and freeze authorities are reported disabled. Supply is described by the project as a fixed one billion, while trackers show roughly 960.6 million issued against a coded maximum of one billion.

Mike Dudas of 6th Man Ventures became the token's most visible amplifier, saying he was given tokens by the community, bought a little more and would not sell. He has not claimed to found or control anything.

Unknown: who deployed it, who holds the domains and the competing X accounts (DEX Screener lists @thetoadmeme_, CoinGecko still lists @eltoadpepe), whether a treasury exists, what changed hands in the takeover, and whether the character's rights holders have been approached. The project states it is not affiliated with or endorsed by them. First review due 7 September 2026.
