Basecat

Basecat is a Base memecoin whose character is a cream-coloured cat in a small blue construction helmet: the chain's colour and the chain's builder language worn as a costume. It launched on 15 August 2026, with its first Uniswap pair created at 18:03 UTC that day, and it is not an ordinary ERC-20. The contract is a B20, the native Base token standard that arrived with the Beryl upgrade on 25 June 2026, issued through the o1 launchpad. The address says so on its face: B20 tokens get deterministic addresses from a factory at 0xB20f, which is why this one reads 0xb2000000000000000000004c27f6523082f41d01.

Supply is a fixed one billion. An unaffiliated analytics site that publishes its methodology reconstructs the launch as having no administrator, no mint authority, no burn authority and no pause authority, with the entire supply placed into the launch pool. The DEX Screener profile records a community ownership claim on 16 August, one day after launch, which means the takeover was of the identity and the accounts rather than of contract keys, because there were no keys to take.

On 21 August 2026, Coinbase Markets added Basecat to its listing roadmap alongside DebtReliefBot, Dolphin and Grass, naming the exact contract. A roadmap place means Coinbase has decided to list, not that trading is live: transfers and trading stay unsupported until a separate announcement, and Coinbase warns that depositing a roadmap asset before then can mean permanent loss of funds. The token was six days old.

Unknown: who submitted the Coinbase application and acted as its issuer contact, who controls the X account, the domain and the Telegram, who receives the launchpad's creator-fee share, and which market maker would support a Coinbase market. The project's claim to be Base's official mascot rests on social attention, not on any licence or agreement made public. First review due 20 September 2026.
